Pelchem wins operational award On 29 October 2009 The Chemical and Allied Industry’s Association (CAIA) announced Pelchem as the winner of their Responsible Care®   award for 2009. Responsible Care® is the global chemical industry’s environmental, health and safety (EHS) initiative to drive continuous improvement in performance and sustainability throughout the product life cycle, and requires adopting cooperative and voluntary initiatives of performance beyond legislative and regulatory compliance, to build confidence and trust in the chemical industry that is essential to improving living standards and the quality of life.

An audit on corner stones of Responsible Care® was performed on 3 finalist companies by CAIA which covered the areas of:

• Health & Safety
• Storage, Distribution and Transport
• Pollution Prevention and Resource Efficiency
• Emergency Response
• Community Interaction
• Product Stewardship
• Process safety

Pelchem became signatory of CAIA’s Responsible Care® commitment on 17 August 2007 and is one out of 136 signatory companies that pledged their support to meet the guiding principles as set by CAIA. 

Pelchem is particularly proud of winning their first operational award, after previous achievements of being a qualifier in the Technology Top 100 awards in 2007, and a finalist in the National Science and Technology Forum (NTSF) award in 2008/09.

This achievement was made possible through the combined effort and discipline of all staff and Necsa service providers, especially the Necsa SHEQ department.
